Mingara seniors housing approved after athletics groups raise parking concerns

The NSW Independent Planning Commission has approved a seniors housing development beside Mingara Recreation Club at Tumbi Umbi, after athletics groups raised concerns about parking and access.

The approved Mingara Drive development includes 215 two- and three-bedroom independent living units and a 39-bed residential-care facility, set across 13 villa buildings, three multistorey buildings and a mixed-use building.

The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure completed the whole-of-government assessment before the application was referred to the Commission, which recorded the approval on July 15.

Its assessment identified potential effects on the adjoining athletics track, traffic and parking, public amenity and the project’s height, bulk and scale.

Little Athletics NSW and Mingara Regional Athletics Club were among groups that objected through the NSW Planning Portal, citing parking, traffic and access to the adjoining athletics facilities.
