Driver freed after car hits pole at Tuggerah, cutting power

A driver has escaped serious injury after a car hit a power pole on McPherson Road at Tuggerah, near Bluegum Close.

The driver was initially trapped in the vehicle because power lines were across the car. Emergency services were on scene while Ausgrid attended and made the vehicle safe.

The driver was later able to get out of the vehicle and did not sustain any serious injuries. Most emergency services have since left the scene.

The crash caused power outages across surrounding areas including Jilliby, Mardi, Tacoma South, Tuggerah, Warnervale and Wyong, and traffic lights were out in the area.

By 8.40am, power had been restored to most customers after Ausgrid isolated the outage to the immediate area around the damaged pole.

Customers still without power had an expected restoration time of 2pm.
